Azerbaijan: Potato Harvest Reaches 777,200 t by End of August, Up 2.2%

Azerbaijan harvested 777,200 tonnes of potatoes in January–August 2026, 2.2% more than a year earlier, the State Statistics Committee says. Exports in January–July rose 9.2% to 77,400 tonnes.

Azerbaijani farmers harvested 777,200 tonnes of potatoes in January–August 2026. This is 2.2% more than in the same period of 2025, according to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan. The committee published the figure in its report on social and economic development, dated 16 September 2026.

The same report shows the harvest of other crops. Grain and pulses reached 3,291,500 tonnes, up 7.9%. Vegetables fell by 2.5% to 1,385,300 tonnes. Fruits rose by 12.6% to 574,700 tonnes, and melons fell by 3.6% to 434,600 tonnes. The total value of agricultural output was 10,057.4 million manat, up 2.6% in real terms.

Exports grow

Potato exports also grew. According to the State Customs Committee, as reported by the news site Tezadlar.az, Azerbaijan exported 77,400 tonnes of potatoes in January–July 2026. This was 6,600 tonnes, or 9.2%, more than a year earlier. The export value was USD 29.7 million, up USD 1.6 million, or 5.5%. By our calculation, the average export price was about USD 384 per tonne.

Export value grew more slowly than volume. This means that the average price per tonne was lower than last year.

Why it matters

The potato harvest in Azerbaijan is not finished. Main-crop potatoes in the mountain districts are still being dug in September and October, so the full-year figure will be higher. The growth of 2.2% by the end of August suggests a stable season.

Production had fallen before. According to the news site Oxu.az, the 2024 harvest was 930,000 tonnes, 8.2% less than in 2023, and farmers complained about higher costs for fuel, labour and storage. A stable or growing crop in 2026 can support exports and reduce the need for imports in winter.

For importers in Russia and neighbouring countries, Azerbaijan remains a steady supplier of potatoes. Lower average export prices show that competition in the region is strong.
