Astrakhan Experts Certify 180 Hectares of Seed Potato Crops in 2026

Key takeaways

  • 180 hectares certified across 10 approbations since June
  • 73 hectares inspected in the Limansky district in September
  • 9 varieties confirmed in the Astrakhan region this season
  • 6 varieties checked in that one September inspection

Why it matters

For farmers
Book the approbation for the flowering window, not after: the inspection can only be done then, and a crop that misses it drops to ordinary seed - which costs you the subsidy as well as the varietal status.
For suppliers
Seed sellers in the region should hold the approbation acts for every lot they offer: buyers who need the subsidy cannot use material without them, so the document is part of the product, not paperwork after the sale.

60-second summary

Specialists of the Astrakhan branch of the Center for Quality Assessment of Agro-Industrial Products inspected 73 hectares of potato crops in the Limansky district in September, planted with Carmen, Gatsby, Arizona, Alouette, Riviera and Flamingo. All were judged fit for use as seed material. The inspection is carried out during flowering, under the methodology set by Decision No. 10 of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council of 30 January 2020. Since June 2026 the branch has run 10 such approbations across 180 hectares in the region, confirming 9 varieties. The procedure decides varietal purity, typicity of the plants, weed infestation and damage by disease and pests - and the stake is financial as much as agronomic. A crop that fails loses its varietal status and becomes ordinary seed, and using such seed removes the grower’s right to Ministry of Agriculture subsidies. Passing keeps both the genetics and the state support intact.

Specialists from the Astrakhan branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Center for Quality Assessment of Agro-Industrial Products” (FGBNU “TsOK APK”) carried out an approbation of potato crops in the Limansky district in September. Experts inspected 73 hectares planted with the Carmen, Gatsby, Arizona, Alouette, Riviera and Flamingo varieties. According to Dilyara Suleymanova, a specialist of the inspection body of the Astrakhan branch, all crops were recognized as suitable for using the harvest as seed material. The approbation was conducted during the flowering period in accordance with the methodology approved by Decision No. 10 of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission dated January 30, 2020. In total, since June 2026, TsOK APK specialists in the Astrakhan region have conducted 10 approbations of potato crops covering a total area of 180 hectares, confirming the quality of 9 varieties.

Approbation is a field inspection that determines varietal purity, plant typicity, and the degree of weed infestation, disease and pest damage. Crops that do not pass this procedure lose their varietal status and become “ordinary” seed. The subsequent use of such seeds deprives agricultural producers of the right to receive subsidies from the Ministry of Agriculture. The work carried out in the Limansky district therefore not only confirms the suitability of the inspected crops for seed purposes, but also helps local growers maintain access to state support and preserve the genetic quality of their planting material.
