Argentina's National Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Market Operators (FENAOMFRA) has asked the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) to intensify controls over fruit and vegetable marketing, with the aim of strengthening inspection, traceability and compliance with regulations.
The request was made by Juan Perlo, treasurer of FENAOMFRA, during an interview with the Campo Directo programme in Córdoba province.

The federation considers it necessary to reinforce the sanitary agency's presence and inspection tasks within the fruit and vegetable marketing chain. The objective is to ensure compliance with current regulations, improve product traceability and promote fair conditions for operators working within the formal system.
Wholesale concentration markets play a central role in the supply and distribution of fresh produce. For that reason, FENAOMFRA is calling for greater coordination between SENASA, provincial authorities, municipalities and commercial operators.
Stronger controls would allow progress towards more orderly, transparent and safer marketing for producers, traders and consumers, according to the federation.
