Solynta’s Disease-Free Hybrid Potato Seeds: A Promising Solution for Sustainable Potato Farming in Kenya

Collaborating Towards Enhanced Yields and Nutritious Harvests for Small-Scale Farmers

In a recent development, Solynta | true potato seeds welcomed a delegation comprising members from the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) and SNV to its trialing site at Mollyfarm in conjunction with partner Mlango Farm.

IFDC’s expressed interest in forging a collaboration aims at introducing Solynta’s disease-free hybrid potato seeds to Kenya’s small-scale farming community. The objective is clear: to enhance yields and provide nutrient-rich potatoes to the country’s smallholder communities.

What sets Solynta’s seeds apart is their remarkable attributes. Weighing merely 25 grams per hectare, these seeds boast an extended shelf life, thereby obviating the necessity for transporting bulky seed tubers via trucks. This streamlined approach ensures that high-quality seeds are made available precisely where and when they are needed, marking a significant stride towards sustainable potato production.

The potential partnership between Solynta, IFDC, and SNV heralds a new era in Kenya’s agricultural landscape. By leveraging innovative technologies and sustainable practices, the collaboration seeks to empower small-scale farmers, fortify food security, and foster economic resilience within local farming communities.

As discussions progress and plans materialize, the collective efforts of these organizations are poised to revolutionize potato farming in Kenya, laying a robust foundation for a greener, more prosperous future.
