Governor of Omsk Region Vitaly Khotsenko traveled to Uzbekistan to discuss investment initiatives with the governor (khokim) of Fergana Region, Khayrullo Bozarov. According to the regional government, the talks focused on establishing a livestock farm and developing potato farming, with the aim of future supplies to Uzbekistan. Omsk Region has strong agricultural potential to support such cooperation: in 2025, local farmers harvested nearly 480,000 tons of potatoes, with yields reaching 292.2 centners per hectare—higher than the previous year.
Despite the abundant harvest, potato prices within the region continue to rise. Just this year, the cost of potatoes has increased by 10.1 percent. Developing export channels, including partnerships with Uzbek agricultural producers, could provide an additional driver for Omsk farmers, though it will require careful balancing between domestic demand and external supply commitments.
