North America: Potato Sustainability Alliance Adds Ontario Potato Board and TriCal Group

The Potato Sustainability Alliance (PSA) has added two new members: the Ontario Potato Board (OPB) joined as a grower organization member, and the TriCal Group came on board as an allied industry member, Spudman reported on 14 October. Potato Grower Magazine carried the same announcement this week.

PSA is based in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and brings together growers, grower organisations, food companies and other stakeholders to identify challenges and solutions for sustainability across the potato supply chain. The new memberships come while PSA is running its 2026 on-farm assessment window, which opened on 1 October and runs through 18 December. During the window, growers can use the Cropwise Sustainability app to document practices, access performance insights and benchmark their results against other potato growers, Potato Country reported.

The nonprofit OPB represents 93 potato growers in Ontario and speaks for the province’s potato industry before multiple levels of the Canadian government, working to increase funding, marketing and production. Grower organisation seats give provincial boards a direct channel into PSA’s programmes, which span the whole supply chain from seed to processing.

The TriCal Group is a coalition of agricultural companies that spans fertilizer, irrigation and industrial businesses, promoting beneficial soil environments for growers with a focus on sustainability. Its arrival as an allied industry member adds soil-management expertise to the alliance’s working groups.

Within PSA, grower organisation members hold voting seats alongside allied industry members, a structure designed to keep farm-level priorities at the centre of the alliance’s work.

PSA has been expanding its toolkit for North American growers in recent seasons, with the annual on-farm assessment cycle now a fixed part of the calendar. For the 2026 round, participating growers document field-level practices through the app and can compare their performance with peers — data that growing numbers of processors and retailers request from their supply bases.
