The Mogilev Region in Belarus has significantly exceeded its potato planting targets for the season. Initially planning to plant potatoes on 3,800 hectares, local farmers have actually cultivated nearly 10 percent more land. Lilia Gulinskaya, head of the crop intensification and land reclamation department at the regional agricultural committee, reported that an additional 360 hectares were taken on by the “Diana” peasant farm in the Shklov District. This farm has been producing potatoes—often called “the second bread”—on large areas for many years and has developed a well-established system for growing, storing, and marketing its produce.
To facilitate the expanded potato harvest, the peasant farm has been allocated additional land not only in the Shklov District but also in the Kruglyansky District. The decision by Mogilev farmers to increase their planting area demonstrates their confidence in maintaining high production volumes and their ability to effectively manage future harvests. With a well-organized infrastructure for storage and sales, the “Diana” farm is well-positioned to minimize risks and make efficient use of the upcoming potato crop.
