Hendrie Poppe of Meijer Potato Joins Local Farmers for an In-Depth Look at Potato Cultivation and Storage
During the summer months, it is customary to conduct extensive tours of potato fields to monitor crop growth and assess yield expectations. This week, Hendrie Poppe from Meijer Potato in the Netherlands joined the local team for a comprehensive field tour, which included visits to both company-owned and contract farmer fields.
The itinerary featured an exploration of seed potato cultivation areas as well as fields dedicated to food and industrial potatoes. Current yield expectations are promising, reflecting positive conditions and effective management practices.
In addition to field visits, the team also inspected a potato storage facility to evaluate the condition of potatoes stored for ten months. The inspection focused on the variety #LadyClaire, providing insights into long-term storage effects and quality maintenance.
The exchange of information and experiences, particularly regarding new potato varieties, is crucial for continual improvement in the industry. Learning from both new and traditional varieties helps enhance overall cultivation practices and storage techniques.
A special thanks was extended to Hendrie Poppe for his valuable contributions during the visit, highlighting the importance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing in advancing the potato industry.
