On March 19, the potato tissue culture center and pre-basic seed multiplication base of Zhongnongfa Zhongshu Industry in Weining Autonomous County, Bijie City, was bustling with activity. As virus-free seedlings successfully emerged, the base seized the favorable spring conditions typical of the high plateau region to fully launch transplanting, watering, and other management operations. This meticulous work lays a crucial foundation for ensuring the availability of high-quality seed potatoes, which is essential for the county’s vast potato industry.
The ongoing efforts at the base play a pivotal role in supporting Weining County’s 1.5 million mu (approximately 100,000 hectares) of potato cultivation. By prioritizing the production and timely transplanting of virus-free pre-basic seed potatoes, local agricultural specialists are strengthening the seed supply chain at its most fundamental level. This approach not only ensures healthy crop establishment but also contributes to higher yields and greater resilience across the region’s potato sector, demonstrating a strong commitment to scientific seed production and sustainable agricultural development.
