Aviko Potato’s Potato Producers Commission (ATC) French fries supplier pool achieved an average payout price of EUR 225.85 per ton for the delivery period of weeks 37 to 44. This is the best result for the entire existence of the af-land pool.
For early grades with delivery on the 32nd week in the af-land pool, the price was 258.35 per ton. “As a Potato Growers Committee, we are very pleased with the result. Especially considering that this is a pre-sale pool. This means that we also sold at prices that were at the beginning of the season,” says ATC Chairman André Broz.
As a result of a successful and smooth start to the growing season and an area increase of more than 3 percent in the growing regions of Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, the market quickly ensured high potato availability for the 2022 crop.
This has had an impact on prices. “That feeling subsided in July when drought and high temperatures put pressure on crop development,” explains Broz. “Wherever possible, abundant irrigation was carried out, but where this was not possible, the harvest deteriorated.”
Sufficient tonnage for sale
Since Aviko Potato still had enough tons to sell in the second half of the marketing season, it was possible to capitalize on higher prices. “By the way, the main harvest of Fontan and Challenger still did not disappoint us,” Broz emphasizes. “We were able to sell 32,500 net tons across all varieties.” Potato yields in Aviko were average, although negative emissions of up to 10 percent were observed in the East and South-East of the country.
Meanwhile, Aviko Potto is busy signing a contract for next season. “While we, as ATC, do not deal directly with this, we stick to contract prices that offset the increase in cost. We prefer to add one more plus. This is also necessary to maintain good margins,” concludes Broz.
