Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Russian parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.
The President of Uzbekistan addressed the agricultural workers in honor of their professional holiday, spoke about the achievements and promised further reforms in the field.
Uzbekistan will continue the initiated reforms in the agricultural sector, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his address to agricultural workers on their professional holiday.
This will serve the sustainable development of the industry and ensure the country’s food security, the head of state noted.
“Large projects will be implemented to improve water supply and modernize the infrastructure of agriculture. We will strengthen measures to widely introduce market principles in cotton and grain growing, grow products on a scientific basis, increase the interest of farmers and dehkans,” he said.
Along with this, the president promised to expand the production of agricultural machinery adapted to local conditions and affordable, preferential terms for its purchase for farmers and dekhkans, and the allocation of subsidies and additional financing to them.
“The positive practice we started with the aim of increasing production and increasing employment in the countryside will be continued, over 100,000 hectares of land will be additionally transferred to the population for the organization of dehkan farms,” Mirziyoyev said.
He also dwelled on the achievements of the industry in recent years. In particular, he noted the introduction of a new system for the cultivation and purchase of cereals, the allocation of preferential loans through international financial institutions, subsidies for the costs of growing products, irrigation, and the purchase of seeds and seedlings.
This year, the area under cotton and grain crops has been reduced by 100,000 hectares, and the released land has been distributed among the population through an open electronic auction. Thanks to this, more than 420,000 new farms and over 1,200,000 permanent and seasonal jobs have been created, the head of state stressed.
The Day of Agricultural Workers is celebrated in Uzbekistan every second Sunday in December.
