The first supply of potatoes from the Balkh region in Afghanistan to the joint market of the two countries, located in the Uzbek city of Termez, has been organized. The volume of the trial batch of food tubers was 250 tons.
Qari Amir Muhammad Mutakki, head of the Taliban’s Department of Industry and Trade in Balkh, explained that as a result of the work done, it was possible to solve a number of problems that traders and investors had previously faced. After removing all obstacles, Afghan agricultural products will begin to flow freely to the neighboring country, where they are in high demand among the population.
According to Afghan farmers, potato exports to Uzbekistan have improved this season compared to previous years. They note that there are no more serious difficulties in the process of delivery and sale of goods.
Several major potato varieties are grown in Afghanistan today, including Bamiani, Andrabi, Tola and Barfak. But it is Bamiani that is very popular with consumers, due to its attractive taste properties.
