Unveiling the Future of Potato Storage: Insights from the GB Potatoes SPot Store Event

Dive into the forefront of potato storage innovation with the GB Potatoes SPot Store event, set to revolutionize storage practices in the agricultural sector. Discover cutting-edge strategies and technologies designed to optimize potato storage, reduce costs, and enhance crop quality.

As potato farming continues to evolve, so do the methods of storage. The GB Potatoes SPot Store event, scheduled for May 14th, 2024, promises a deep dive into the latest advancements in potato storage practices. Spearheaded by GB Potatoes in collaboration with Potato Storage Insight and SDF Agriculture, this initiative aims to refine storage techniques through on-farm research and practical demonstrations.

Traditional approaches to storage are being challenged by the need for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The SPot project recognizes the importance of proactive measures in enhancing growers’ understanding of storage dynamics, ultimately empowering them to mitigate rising costs and optimize yields.

The event will feature presentations by industry experts Adrian Cunnington of Potato Storage Insight and Simon Faulkner of SDF Agriculture, who will delve into various aspects of potato storage. Topics such as cold storage strategies, including the use of maleic hydrazide and ethylene, will be explored alongside discussions on store design, air flow, insulation, and dormancy.

Attendees will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the results of on-site trials conducted at Winters Lane Storage Ltd. and Gedney Dyke stores. From examining PCN trial varieties to analyzing dormancy break and fry colors, participants will gain valuable insights into the efficacy of different storage regimes.

Beyond technical discussions, the event will also facilitate networking opportunities with industry partners and exhibitors. Companies involved in the SPot project will showcase their offerings and engage in discussions about energy-saving solutions, produce quality measurement, and more.

In conclusion, the GB Potatoes SPot Store event represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of potato storage practices. By fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and practical demonstrations, it sets the stage for a future where growers can harness the full potential of storage technology to optimize their yields and reduce costs.
