In a significant stride towards innovation in potato processing, Tolsma-Grisnich has successfully concluded a groundbreaking project in Bayern, southern Germany. The state-of-the-art processing line, spanning three halls, redefines efficiency and precision in the processing of table potatoes.
Reception Hall:
The reception hall boasts three unloading belts, facilitating the simultaneous unloading of five trucks at a remarkable capacity of 30 tons per hour. These belts offer five distinct routes for the potatoes, with two directly leading to the packaging department, one to the washing hall, and two to the receiving bunkers. Notably, one of the routes employs a foreign parts separator and a shaker sorter for meticulous sorting of top and bottom sizes.
The sorted potatoes are further categorized into two sizes and directed to one of the 12 bunkers, collectively holding an impressive capacity of 360 tons. From these bunkers, the product flow can be seamlessly directed to the packaging line or either of the two washing lines.
Washing and Sorting Hall:
The second hall accommodates the washing lines with integrated bunkers. Each washing line is equipped with a stone, clod, and haulm separator, drum washer, polisher, and a roller dryer. The system ensures delicacy, with the polisher being adjustable to accommodate delicate potatoes. Waste from the line is efficiently collected in waste bunkers, and the washing water undergoes purification in a dedicated water purification plant.
Post-washing, the potatoes proceed to four integrated optical sorters, meticulously categorizing them by quality before storing them in bunkers. The total capacity of these bunkers for sorted products is an impressive 300 tons, while bunkers for B-quality and waste store up to 240 tons.
Packaging Hall:
The journey concludes in the packaging hall, featuring five packaging lines, each equipped with two weighers. Following each packaging line is a “case packer” that adeptly repacks bags of finished products into boxes. Automation is at the forefront, with the entire process, including palletization, being fully automated. Visual screens enable complete control, and a robust track and trace system ensures unparalleled product traceability.
Tolsma-Grisnich’s completion of this avant-garde potato processing line in Germany marks a significant leap forward in the industry. The integration of cutting-edge technology, meticulous sorting processes, and automated control systems showcases a commitment to efficiency, quality, and innovation in table potato processing.
