Tummers Methodic aims to meet theme potato seasonal trends by developing new cutting blocks with custom-shaped blades, which allow for the end products to resemble popular symbols, from Christmas trees to Easter rabbits.
The demand for ‘special cut’ products has increased and new creative shapes are being introduced all the time, Dutch company Tummers Methodic provides the equipment that allows consumers to serve food that is especially shaped to match such occasions.
For instance, the Tummers Methodic Christmas range already includes bells, trees and stars. The company also produces Easter bunnies, crowns, fish, ducks and football boots for a wide variety of events and occasions.
The cutting of potatoes for human consumption is a very delicate and precise process. Tummers Methodic excells when it comes to hydro-cutting. During this process, potatoes are carried in water and pumped under high pressure through cutting blades, providing a beautifully cut end product. Any waste from this process is used in other potato processes, such as mashing, or the production of potato flakes. In order to produce these special cuts, the existing process line is adapted and the product is cut lengthwise.

The newly shaped ‘potato bar’ is then mechanically cut into slices to create the desired shape which eventually ends up in the supermarket. Making a cutting block and adapting this process line costs time and money, but around the time of these special occasions for which these shapes are created, this does prove to be profitable. Additionally, it is a great way for processors to differentiate themselves in the market. In principle, any conceivable shape can be made. Tummers Methodic has a proven track record as a hydro-cutting expert, processing a wide variety of products and shapes. Standard shapes include crinkle, wedge crinkle, wedge 4/6/8, sticks, triangle, wave cut, diamond, slices, crinkle slices, coring (bell peppers etc.) and house style. All of these shapes are mostly used for cutting potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, strawberries, parsnips, onions and pickles.
