A modern potato and vegetable storage facility will appear in the village of Bykovo, Kabansky District, with a capacity of 20,000 tons. The total cost of the investment project is about 400 million rubles. The investor is Garantiya-2 LLC, the leader in the production of potatoes and vegetables in Buryatia, their products account for 40% of this commodity sector.
The investment project is supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Buryatia: specialists advise and accompany the project from development to launch. The project will be implemented in two stages – in the fall of 2023, a potato storage facility for 8 thousand tons will be launched, in 2025 a vegetable storage facility for 12 thousand tons will be launched. According to experts, the payback period of investments is 6 years.
The construction of a potato and vegetable storage is an important step towards solving the issues of not only storage, but also pricing for these products. Vegetables harvested for future use will be stored in optimal conditions and released to the market throughout the year. This will avoid a sharp rise in prices for vegetables and potatoes in the winter.
In 2022, the self-sufficiency of Buryatia in potatoes increased to 105%. Provision of the republic with vegetables amounted to 56%. The remaining 44% are vegetables from other regions.
