NEW IN ALBERT HEIJN’S RANGE: NEW HARVEST POTATOES FROM THE NETHERLANDS

As of 14 June 2021, we will deliver the first AH NEW HARVEST potatoes from the Netherlands. The new harvest of potatoes was planted in February, grown under cover (plastic), so that they stay warmer. And with that, having a growth edge, this was quite a challenge with the cold spring.

From the beginning of June, these New harvest potatoes have been harvested. This slightly crumbly potato will certainly be very sensitive for the first few weeks. The skin is still so thin that we therefore supply it unwashed. The potato is not skin-resistant yet, so we need to treat it as carefully as possible. Therefore, washing or brushing is not possible. It will certainly happen that the skin of the skin lets go, but this does absolutely no harm. As soon as the potatoes are a bit more skin-resistant, we will start washing them. But when that is depends on the conditions on land.

Thanks to the early New Harvest potatoes, we ensure that we have Dutch potatoes in Albert Heijn’s assortment all year round. The variety is Frieslander, full of creamy taste. Due to the thin skin, the potatoes can be prepared without peeling, only rinse briefly and carefully remove the soil.
