Harvest Pride Project Sets New Standards for Potato Cultivation and Sustainability
In a strategic move towards advancing sustainability in the potato industry, Nedato B.V., in collaboration with CropSolutions, unveils an innovative initiative. Following the establishment of PotatoNext, a cooperative dedicated to the cultivation and processing of table potatoes, Nedato transitions to become the primary distribution channel for fries and export potatoes. Embracing the journey towards sustainability, the cooperative launches the Harvest Pride project, aimed at fostering a sense of pride in both the product and its cultivation methods among growers.
“This initiative calls for an investment from growers towards a sustainable future, benefiting the entire supply chain. We ensure that our affiliated growers are duly rewarded for their efforts and adequately compensated for associated risks,” explains Wim van de Ree, Director of Nedato. Furthermore, Nedato collaborates closely with CropSolutions, a leading agricultural advisory organization, to provide comprehensive support to growers throughout the process.
Under the leadership of Ko Francke, the steering committee chairman of this collaborative effort, the potato cooperative aims to introduce a new trading platform. This platform aims to enhance transparency in potato pricing mechanisms, thereby fostering fairer market practices and greater trust among stakeholders.
This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable practices in potato cultivation, with implications for growers, agronomists, entrepreneurs in the potato industry, managers in the pesticide and fertilizer sectors, scientists, researchers, and professionals in the food industry.
