Frying Revolution: How McCain Is Making Fries More Sustainable
McCain Foods, one of the world’s largest potato food companies, is launching the “Taste Good. Feel Good.” campaign, which combines taste and sustainability. The focus is on Regen Fries, a french fry made from potatoes grown using regenerative farming principles.
Frying with the Future in Mind
McCain is committed to not just delivering a delicious product, but also changing the way agriculture is practiced by promoting sustainable production. The campaign aims to raise consumer awareness of the importance of regenerative farming practices that help restore soil, reduce carbon footprints, and improve the sustainability of the food system. According to Christina Calvenes, Chief Innovation and Marketing Officer at McCain Foods:
“Agriculture is at the heart of what we do, which is why we are committed to advancing regenerative farming to secure the future of fries. Real change happens when we come together. Through conscious food choices, participation in our initiatives, and of course, enjoying our delicious Regen Fries, everyone can contribute to a sustainable future of farming.”
How McCain is bringing regenerative farming to the forefront
The “Taste Good. Feel Good.” campaign includes several interactive formats, allowing consumers to not only try a new product but also learn more about sustainable farming:
- Gamification: McCain is launching a new AR game, “Farms of the Future AR,” where players can virtually visit McCain’s farm of the future, earn prizes (including free fries), and win recycled goods and even a farm-themed vacation.
- Collaborations: The campaign features actress Rachel Brosnahan, helping to highlight McCain’s mission to transition all partner farms to regenerative farming by 2030.
- Influencers and chefs: The Regen Fries advert features “potato queen” Poppy O’Toole and chef Colby Cash, demonstrating how a familiar product can be part of a conscious consumption.
- Designer collaborations: McCain collaborated with artists Currie Goat, Brothers Make and Kelly Anna to release exclusive collectibles that can be won by participating in an AR game or interacting with content on social platforms.
Regen Fries – a new generation of fries
Regen Fries are not just a new product in the McCain line, but a symbol of the company’s transition to a more sustainable future. Using potatoes grown using regenerative farming principles helps maintain soil fertility, reduce water use, and lower carbon emissions.
As Rachel Brosnahan noted:
“McCain isn’t just changing the way potatoes are grown – they’re changing the way agriculture is perceived. Regen Fries are my new favorite because not only are they delicious, they’re doing good for the future of farming (and fries!).”
How can brands influence the future of agriculture?
With this initiative, McCain is demonstrating that companies can do more than just make delicious food – they can change the industry for the better. Regenerative farming is becoming a key trend in the food industry, and McCain, as a leader in the potato market, is setting the direction for the entire industry.
