Strategies for Potato Farmers and Agronomists to Navigate Hot Weather Conditions

Potato farmers and agronomists face a significant challenge as meteorological stations predict an impending heatwave lasting from tomorrow, Tuesday, through the end of next Thursday. Coupled with hot, southerly winds, it is imperative to prepare for intensive irrigation starting from tonight and continuing until tomorrow morning at 10:00 am (center pivot irrigation). Subsequently, irrigation should resume from 4:00 pm until 10:00 am daily during the three-day heatwave, and one day thereafter, with a strict cessation of fertilization due to its burdensome effects on plants during this period.

Upon the subsiding of the heatwave, farmers should revert to their regular programs while considering the necessity of spraying a seaweed extract from a reputable company, blended with amino acids and a light dose of micronutrients. This regimen aims to mitigate the stress induced by the extreme weather conditions and ensure optimal crop health and yield.
