Late Blight Lookalikes on Tubers

Pink Eye

Pink patches develop around the bud
end and eyes. The pink discolouration
is usually skin-deep.
If humidity is high, soft rot
bacteria may invade affected
areas.

Pink Rot

Infected areas appear dark brown to purplish
black. The margin of the decay is often limited
by a dark line. Infected skin is easily rubbed off.
The internal rot usually begins at the stem end and is cream to light brown. The rot has a texture similar to that of a boiled potato. When
infected tubers are cut, the flesh turns pink in
about 20 minutes and with time turns black.
