The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia will support the city of Busan at the stage of selection of the host country of the World Expo 2030.
The prospects for deepening trade and economic relations between Georgia and Korea were discussed during the visit of the Korean delegation to Tbilisi, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia reports.
The head of the agricultural department, Otar Shamuguiya, met with the special representative of the President of Korea, Su Byongsu, and deputies of the National Assembly.
The Minister informed the representatives of the delegation about the possibilities of ecotourism and agritourism in Georgia.
In addition, Shamuguiya thanked the Special Representative of the President of Korea for the technical assistance provided to the Agency for Protected Areas.
In 2021, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the National Park Service of Korea and the Protected Areas Agency of Georgia, within which several important activities have already been implemented.
At the meeting, Shamugia drew attention to local agricultural products with special export potential, and stressed the importance of Georgian wine as the main export product.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture informed the guests that the department, within its competence, will support the candidacy of the city of Busan at the stage of selecting the host country for the World Expo 2030.
Seo Byeongsu thanked Shamugiya for his support, noting that the popularity of Georgian wine is growing in Korea, which is an important prerequisite for deepening trade relations between the countries.
The National Wine Agency has actively launched the implementation of strategic marketing activities in the Korean market since 2019. In 2019 and 2022, Georgian wine companies participated in the Korean wine and spirits exhibition “Seoul Wine and Expo”.
It should also be noted that with the support of the National Wine Agency, Georgian wine will be presented at the international event “Daejeon International Wine Festival 2022” in the Korean city of Daejeon from August 25 to 28 inclusive.
According to statistics, the first investments from Korea to Georgia were made in 1997, since then, including 2020, the total investment amounted to $204.32 million. Including in 2016-2020 – 123.79 million dollars.
According to the National Statistics Service, the trade turnover between the countries in 2021 amounted to almost $80 million.
