EQUIPPING A NEW POTATO STORAGE FACILITY

When opening a new storage facility one has to think about long-term usage. In this case, the developer has to consider as many as possible changes that may happen in the future. Flexibility is one of the key factors in this investment. We have spoken to Jan van Maldegem, Marketing Manager at Tolsma regarding flexibility in equipping a potato storage facility and much more.

Storage options for farmers need to be flexible for various reasons, such as yield increasing and the use of different potato varieties. The recommended choice for making the storage as flexible is possible is the boxes system, as opposed to the bulk system.

Therefore, investing in an airbag system for the boxes or compartments where potatoes are stored is of great importance. Similarly, the fitting of a smaller “letter box”-type system, for extra drying and heating of a particular number of boxes, is also recommended.
