Empowering Potato Farmers: Training on Crop Protection Techniques

Kilimo Kisasa Ltd Advances Sustainable Agriculture with Farmers in Kabale and Kisoro

Exciting developments are underway in the potato fields of Kabale and Kisoro, as Kilimo Kisasa Ltd spearheads training initiatives aimed at enhancing crop protection techniques. With a focus on empowering local seed potato farmers, Kilimo Kisasa Ltd is facilitating a series of training sessions in collaboration with UNSPPA and the SDGP of Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development and Delphy Africa.

Crop Protection

During the recent visit to farmers in Kabale and Kisoro, Kilimo Kisasa Ltd conducted the second phase of their training program. Farmers who have invested in HZPC Taurus seed potatoes from the company’s farm were the focus of attention. These farmers are aspiring to establish themselves as ‘Local Seed Businesses,’ with the goal of supplying high-quality seed potatoes of the Taurus variety to fellow farmers in the region.

The training session delved into essential aspects of crop protection, including spraying schedules and the identification of potato diseases. Equipping farmers with knowledge and skills in these areas is crucial for ensuring a high-quality yield, free from diseases that can compromise crop productivity.

Looking ahead, Kilimo Kisasa Ltd is preparing for the final part of the training series, scheduled to take place in a few weeks. This upcoming session will concentrate on harvest techniques and post-harvest handling, completing the comprehensive training program designed to empower local seed potato farmers.

As Kilimo Kisasa Ltd continues its mission to uplift agricultural practices and promote sustainability in the Kabale and Kisoro regions, stakeholders can anticipate further updates on the progress of this transformative initiative
