In Melena del Sur, 291 hectares are being prepared for the planting of the famous tuber, a commitment with which the producers of that territory must fulfill.
Potato planting began in the municipality of Melena del Sur in the province of Mayabeque during the current cold season, which due to the recent rains due to Tropical Storm Eta, was a little delayed. Regarding this, a producer from CCS RENE O. REINE, named Ordanis Hernández Mirabal, expressed that they have started a “quite favorable” campaign despite the adversities they had due to the meteorological phenomenon. He also added that at the moment they have a high quality seed therefore they expect good yields in terms of the result of the potato. According to producer Ordanis Hernández Mirabal, the potato harvest is being classified by size.
It should be noted that the success of the sowing is due to the good preparation of the soil, so that the producers of Melena del Sur in Mayabeque, previous days had already done the plowing and furrowing in all the lands. Due to this, the producers of the territory expect better results in the harvest, they are also implementing the proper fertilizer and mechanization in the crop to improve productive performance.
