An additional 300 tonnes of potatoes have been imported from India via the Benapole Land Port in Jashore in an effort to stabilize the escalating prices of this staple food item. This follows the recent importation of 400 tonnes of potatoes in two shipments, which arrived last Wednesday and Thursday in a total of 16 trucks.
In addition to potatoes, the government has sanctioned the importation of other essential commodities such as rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions, and green chillies to address the current market situation.
The recent consignment of 300 tonnes of potatoes, which arrived through the Petrapole Port of India, was transported in 12 trucks. According to the revenue officer of Benapole Port’s cargo branch check post, the potatoes were procured by Integrated Food and Beverage from PepsiCo India Holdings.
The cost of each tonne of potatoes amounted to $194. These imports are part of the ongoing efforts to manage the supply and pricing of essential food items in the region.
