The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has announced the launch of the National Week for Promoting Sustainable Pesticide Use, traditionally held during the last week of March. From March 23 to 27, ANSA is implementing a comprehensive action plan aimed at informing and raising awareness among citizens and agricultural producers about the importance of responsible use of plant protection products. The primary goal of the information campaign is to promote safe agricultural practices and reduce the risks associated with pesticide application. By promoting integrated pest management systems and alternative methods, the initiative seeks to minimize negative impacts on human health, biodiversity, and the environment.
While the use of pesticides is necessary to combat diseases and pests affecting crops, improper application can have adverse consequences for human health, soil condition, water quality, and bee populations. ANSA emphasizes that plant protection products are hazardous chemicals, and the use of products of questionable origin or unauthorized substances poses a serious threat to health and the environment. Prolonged exposure to pesticides can result in both acute and chronic cumulative effects. Therefore, it is essential for farmers applying phytosanitary products to strictly adhere to the usage rules established by legislation and recommended by specialists.
