Market Analysis and Strategies in Seed Breeding and Selection
Roman Samoylov, Project Manager at Strategy Partners’ “Agricultural and Consumer Sector” practice, will present research findings on Russia’s seed breeding and selection market at the Russian Field Growers Forum 2024. His presentation will cover several key aspects of the research:
- Overview of the seed market across major agricultural crops, including production volumes, consumption, imports, and exports.
- Comparison of the Russian market with international counterparts in terms of yield levels and commercial seed market development.
- Models of operation and commercialization in Russia and developed countries, along with insights into key industry players.
- New investment projects, tools, and government support measures aimed at enhancing the sector.
“We have thoroughly examined the domestic seed breeding and selection market, identifying key challenges and potential solutions. One of the major difficulties is the high dependency on imported seeds. Addressing this issue requires implementing quotas on seed imports, legislative adjustments, and attracting business investments.
Russian breeders also lack expertise in promoting and developing comprehensive offerings for farmers, complicating competition with foreign players who invest heavily in product promotion and comprehensive solutions. Enhancing domestic competencies is crucial: restricting foreign companies’ activities and subsidizing domestic productions are necessary steps.
Another significant challenge is the inefficient market operation model. In Russia, breeders’ rights are poorly protected, and the royalty-based commercialization model significantly limits potential revenue. It is essential to develop seed traceability tools and transform breeders’ monetization models,” explained Roman Samoylov, speaker at the forum and head of Strategy Partners’ “Agricultural and Consumer Sector” projects.
The “Russian Field Growers Forum 2024” will take place on September 5-6, 2024, at Masq Pyatigorsk Hotel, 1st km Georgievskoye Highway, Pyatigorsk.
Organizer: Federal agricultural publication “Agrobusiness Journal.”
