Research in the new laboratory will allow scientists of the Omsk Agrarian Research Center (SibNIISKhoz) to receive healthy elite seed potatoes, the press service of the department reported.
A new biological laboratory for breeding promising potato varieties will open on the basis of the Omsk ANC
Currently, preparations are underway for the commissioning of a new laboratory. The acquisition of instrumentation and laboratory furniture is carried out within the framework of the national project “Science”, a project worth 17 million rubles annually will be implemented for three years.
“This laboratory is designed to create virus-free potato starting material. The purpose of the research is to select promising domestic potato varieties that will compete with foreign ones in terms of quality, suitability for mechanized harvesting, and storage,” comments the head. The new laboratory is a significant step forward for Omsk breeders. Recall that the potato department of the Omsk ANC already has several promising varieties – Bylina Sibiri, Khozyayushka, Alena, Triumph, Vecherniy Omsk, which have a number of competitive qualities.
