A Delightful Day with Engaged Students from UCL Business Academy and Professions College: Exploring the World of Potatoes

In a vibrant exchange of knowledge and enthusiasm, four inquisitive process technology students embarked on a captivating journey into the world of potatoes. Hosted by Danespos, this event showcased the structured approach to quality and the ambitious goals in certifications and CSR strategy. Join us as we delve into the highlights of this enriching experience and discover the secrets behind creating a new potato variety.

A Day of Learning and Exploration:
On this sunny day, students Stine Johansen, Simone Leth Kristensen, Camilla V. Ormstrup, and Kevin Lund from UCL Business Academy and Professions College eagerly participated in an educational adventure that would broaden their horizons within the potato industry. Guided by passionate experts, they gained insights into various aspects of potato cultivation, research, and packaging.

Exploring Potato Cultivation:
The day commenced with an insightful presentation by Anne-Kathrine Østerby Hauge, shedding light on Danespos’ meticulous work in ensuring quality within the potato industry. The students learned about the company’s ambitious goals for certifications and its comprehensive CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy. These elements are integral in not only meeting consumer expectations but also contributing to sustainable practices in agriculture.

Creating New Potato Varieties:
Merethe Bagge, a seasoned expert in the field, shared the art and science behind creating a new potato variety. Students were taken to the experimental field where Jakob Gaarde Uth introduced them to the intricacies of potato breeding. This hands-on experience allowed them to witness the birth of many exciting new potato varieties that would eventually find their way into kitchens around the world.

The Journey from Farm to Table:
The highlight of the day was a visit to Danespos’ potato packaging facility in Grønbjerg, where Lorena Mustea-Stanciu guided the students through the entire journey of a eating potato, from its arrival at the facility to its final destination on supermarket shelves, meal kit boxes, or restaurant plates. This behind-the-scenes tour gave the students a deep appreciation for the meticulous process that ensures the freshness and quality of the potatoes.

Acknowledgments and Anticipation:
A special thanks to Trine Boelt Vilsmark, the dedicated educator who arranged this enriching experience for the students. Her trust, along with her infectious enthusiasm, made this day possible and unforgettable. Now, the students eagerly await the opportunity to present their findings and projects, armed with newfound knowledge and inspiration.

Conclusion:
The day spent with the enthusiastic students from UCL Business Academy and Professions College was a testament to the importance of knowledge-sharing and hands-on experiences within the agriculture industry. As the students prepare to share their own projects, they carry with them the insights gained from Danespos’ commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation in the world of potatoes.

Future Endeavors:
We look forward to seeing the future contributions of these budding process technology experts in the potato industry and beyond. Their passion for learning and their engagement in sustainable practices will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the agricultural sector.
