The golden potato nematode was detected during a quarantine phytosanitary survey of land plots in the region on an area of 97.12 hectares. The work was carried out by specialists of the territorial department of the Federal Center for Animal Health Protection.
The pest parasitizes primarily on the roots of potatoes, as well as tomatoes and eggplants. It also affects other representatives of the Solanaceae family.
Diseased plants form weak stems prone to premature yellowing. Few potatoes are formed, they are small in size, and in some cases the tubers are completely absent. Crop yield losses due to golden potato nematode can be up to 30-80%.
