Rosselkhoznadzor specialists stopped the import of a dangerous batch of agricultural products into the territory of the Amur region. In the samples of the product, experts found a quarantine object – a spindle-shaped viroid of potato tubers.
The pathogen is a short circular RNA molecule. An oblong, spindle-like shape of tubers becomes a symptom of plant damage. The viroid does not pose any danger to human health, but it can lead to serious crop losses.
The department’s specialists identified a strain in a batch of potatoes with a volume of over 24 tons. The tubers were kept in a temporary storage warehouse located near the cross-border bridge over the Amur River. The import of products to the Russian Federation was prohibited.
