In a significant step for the agricultural sector in Tula, Dmitry Milyaev, the Acting Governor of the Tula Region, recently visited a new potato processing plant under construction in Venev. This facility, backed by the investment group “Zhak,” aims to enhance the region’s potato processing capabilities and create new job opportunities while addressing the growing demand for processed potato products.
Investment in Potato Processing
The construction of the potato processing plant began in 2020 following an agreement signed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2019. Currently, the facility is in the commissioning phase, with production set to commence later this year upon the completion of the wastewater treatment facilities. Once operational, the plant is expected to create approximately 150 new jobs, contributing to the local economy and providing a boost to the agricultural community.
During his visit, Milyaev inspected various sections of the plant, including the potato reception and processing areas, as well as the finished goods warehouse and treatment facilities. The establishment of this processing plant is part of a broader strategy to enhance the agricultural sector in Tula and improve the efficiency of potato production and processing.
Broader Agricultural Developments in Tula
Milayaev also reviewed the ongoing harvest of winter wheat and potatoes across a sown area exceeding 65,000 hectares. This substantial farming footprint indicates the region’s commitment to expanding agricultural production and ensuring food security.
The Zhak Group is spearheading several major investment projects in Tula. In 2022, the company launched an elevator complex for grain storage, sorting, and processing, with a total storage capacity of 150,000 tons. Furthermore, a reconstruction agreement for a livestock complex in the Novomoskovsk region was signed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2024, showcasing the ongoing commitment to modernizing Tula’s agricultural infrastructure.
Dmitry Milyaev’s visit to the potato processing plant in Venev underscores the Tula Region’s commitment to enhancing its agricultural processing capabilities. With significant investments in processing facilities, the region is poised to meet the growing demand for processed potato products while supporting local farmers and creating new job opportunities. The proactive measures taken by the government to bolster the agricultural sector indicate a promising future for Tula’s agriculture and food processing industries.
