A Dedicated Seed Grower, Richard Skogman Leaves a Legacy of Commitment to the Michigan Potato Industry
The Michigan potato industry has lost a valued member with the passing of Richard Skogman, a respected seed potato grower and operator of Skogman Seed Farm in Dickinson County, Upper Peninsula. Richard passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the age of 62.
Richard was known for his industrious and resourceful approach to seed potato cultivation. His contributions to the seed industry and the Michigan Seed Potato Association earned him a reputation as a wise and dependable figure within the farming community. “Richard was an industrious and resourceful seed grower, and we will miss his wisdom, friendship, and contributions to our group,” said Damen Kurzer, director of the Michigan Seed Potato Association.
Skogman Seed Farm, established in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, has been a cornerstone in the region’s potato industry. The farm will continue under the leadership of Richard’s son, Matt Skogman, who is already an active member of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission.
Funeral services for Richard were held last week in Felch, Michigan, where family, friends, and the farming community gathered to honor his life and legacy. Richard’s passing is a significant loss, but his contributions to the industry will continue to be felt through his family’s ongoing work at Skogman Seed Farm.
