n December, the Netherlands exported almost 80,000 tons of consumer and industrial potatoes. Thus, the total export volume of potatoes in the first six months of the current marketing season was approximately 405,000 tons. Last year, at the same time of measurement, exports amounted to about 340,000 tons.
This is evidenced by the data on the export of the Dutch consumer and industrial potatoes of the 2022 crop, published by the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO). The Belgians harvested the most Dutch potatoes in December with just over 31,000 tons.
Belgium has already purchased 185,000 tons of Dutch potatoes since the start of this marketing season in July 2022. This is more than 60,000 tons more than last year for the same period. With almost 27,000 tonnes, Germany has taken far fewer potatoes out of the Netherlands this marketing season than last season at the same measurement time. Between July and December 2021, the Germans purchased over 45,000 tons. In December 2022, this was just over 6,000 tons of potatoes.
Senegal
Outside of Europe, Senegal is the largest consumer with 30,000 tons to date. This is 10,000 tons more than last season. In December 2022, the African country purchased almost 10,000 tons of Dutch potatoes. After Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania are the largest African consumers.
