PSI’s two-day program aims to elevate potato storage expertise with comprehensive training and certification opportunities.

Potato Storage Insight (PSI) has announced the return of its highly regarded Potato Store Managers’ Course, set to take place on the 4th and 5th of March 2025. This annual event, led by seasoned expert Adrian Cunnington, has become a benchmark for potato storage management excellence in the UK for nearly 30 years.

The course will be held at the Greetham Valley Hotel & Conference Centre near Oakham, Rutland, providing a focused environment for practical learning and professional development. It is tailored for both new and experienced store managers, offering an invaluable opportunity to deepen their understanding of storage techniques and emerging challenges in the field.

A distinctive feature of the program is the inclusion of the BASIS (Stored Potatoes) qualification. Delegates will have the option to sit for an online exam on April 1, 2025, adding a formal certification to their professional credentials. This initiative, first introduced in 2024, has been praised for its relevance and impact in the industry.

Adrian Cunnington will be joined by Glyn Harper, a respected trainer since 2010. Both trainers bring decades of expertise, having previously worked at the Sutton Bridge research facility before its closure in 2021. Their combined knowledge ensures an engaging, discussion-based delivery of information, balancing theoretical insights with practical applications.

Course Highlights:

  • Risk and Cost Management: Addressing financial and operational challenges in commercial storage.
  • Disease Threats and Sprout Control: Covering the latest strategies to maintain potato quality.
  • Ventilation Management: A critical component for ensuring environmental control and reducing losses.

The program is designed as a residential course, fostering a collaborative learning atmosphere. Delegates will benefit not only from interactive training sessions but also from networking opportunities, including an informal evening dinner.

This comprehensive training is an essential resource for professionals across the potato value chain, from storage managers and agronomists to researchers and industry suppliers.
