University of Idaho Hosts Event to Showcase Advances in Weed and Herbicide Management for Potato Growers

The University of Idaho is pleased to announce the 2024 UI Snake River Weed Management Tour and Field Day, which will take place at the Aberdeen Research and Extension (R&E) Center on Tuesday, June 25. This event offers a valuable opportunity for farmers, agronomists, researchers, and industry professionals involved in potato cultivation to gain insights into the latest advancements in weed and herbicide management.

Event Details and Schedule

  • Registration: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
  • Tour: 9:00 a.m. – Noon
  • Lunch: Sponsored, following the tour

Attendees do not need to pre-register or RSVP for the event. Four Idaho pesticide recertification credits will be available for participants.

  3. Simulated Excess Rainfall Effects on Herbicides and Potato Crop Safety:
    • Demonstrations on how excess rainfall impacts herbicide performance and the safety of potato crops.
  4. Herbicide SOA Injury Demonstration:
    • Visual demonstrations of herbicide site of action injuries to better understand the impact on crops.

Additional Updates and Research Insights

The event will also provide updates on critical research and development projects, including:

  • IR-4 Herbicide Tolerance for Quinoa:
    • Insights into how herbicide tolerance research for quinoa fits into potato rotations.
  • ISDA Specialty Crop Block Grant:
    • Findings on condiment mustard herbicide tolerance and its implications for crop rotations.

Researchers will also discuss ongoing developments in Idaho potato variety breeding, disease management, and overall cropping systems.
