Vegetable farms in Russia’s Saratov region have completed potato planting, and the harvest is expected to match or slightly exceed last year’s figures, according to the regional Ministry of Agriculture. A total of 6.8 thousand hectares have been allocated to potatoes across all categories of farms, with the largest areas concentrated in the Engelssky, Sovetsky, and Lysogorsky districts. Despite challenging weather conditions, state support helped farmers carry out the work successfully. Under the federal project “Development of Vegetable and Potato Growing,” local potato growers received over 5 million rubles in government aid to stimulate increased production.
Vasily Kotov, head of the region’s agricultural sector, stated that this support has been an effective and tangible measure for several years, allowing farmers to reduce financial burdens and carry out agrotechnical work on time. He noted that current efforts are aimed at achieving the federal project’s targets, which call for an 18% increase in potato production and a 20% increase in vegetable production in the organized sector by 2030. The ministry reminded that 141 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested in 2025, while this year’s plan is 143.4 thousand tons.
