As noted in the agrarian department of the republic, the seed production system of Kazakhstan is not organized today. There is no unity of approaches in quality management and there is a technological lag in this area. The system of primary seed production, the main element of the production and technological chain, is insufficiently developed.
The consequence of this state of affairs was the uncompetitiveness of seed production of Kazakhstan breeding achievements. As well as high import dependence on agricultural seeds and the dominance of foreign varieties in the industry.
The Ministry offers a number of recommendations for the development of seed production in Kazakhstan. Among them are the preservation of the gene pool and ongoing work on the development of primary seed production, stimulating the work of seed companies to increase the quantity and quality of seeds and planting material.
Other measures include the development and implementation of a digital information system for tracking the movement of seed and planting material, creating conditions for attracting young personnel to the industry, and others.
There are 284 certified producers of original and elite seeds in Kazakhstan. 1385 varieties of agricultural crops of domestic selection are registered in the State Register of breeding achievements. 27 institutions are engaged in breeding at this stage.
