A new variety of potatoes was presented by breeders in the Samara region. This was reported on August 11 by the press service of the Department of Information Policy of the region.

It is reported that the variety “Julia” has passed a two-year state variety trials. Another promising potato variety Alva is under development.
It is noted that selection work is carried out within the framework of the project “Development of selection and seed production of potatoes in the Samara region”.
It is reported that the variety “Julia” belongs to the early group of ripeness. In the course of research, this potato variety showed a very high resistance to viral and bacterial diseases. Its yield is 50 to 60 tons per hectare. The variety is well kept.
“The development of new varieties of agricultural crops such as potatoes, beets, soybeans, industrial crops, and the reproduction of seed material are now becoming a priority within the framework of the federal scientific and technical program. Agrarians of the Samara region today are already engaged in a number of areas, ”the press service quotes the words of the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the region Nikolai Abashin.
According to the press service, the farmers of the region have begun harvesting potatoes, 700 tons of this vegetable have already been harvested with an average yield of 280 centners per hectare. In 2022, 129 thousand hectares were sown with potatoes in the region. On the fields of the region, promising varieties of Russian selection are successfully cultivated – “Grand”, “Gulliver” and “Violet”. In the near future, this list is going to be replenished with the variety “Julia”.
