At the site of the Institute of Agrobiotechnologies. A.V. Zhuravsky Federal Research Center of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a working meeting chaired by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Komi Elmira Akhmeeva.
The issue of creating a breeding and seed-growing center for breeding and growing original seed and elite potatoes in the Komi Republic was discussed. The Head of Komi Vladimir Uyba set such a task for the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
The meeting was attended by acting. Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Market of the Republic of Komi Nadezhda Usova, Director of the FRC Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences Svetlana Degteva, director of the Institute of Agrobiotechnologies. Zhuravsky FRC Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ph.D. Andrey Yudin, Head of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Gossortkomissiya” Severny Yaroslav Korobeinik, General Director of LLC “Prigorodny” Pavel Lapin, other representatives of science and the agro-industrial industry.
“As part of the project to create a selection and seed center, it is planned to carry out scientific work on the production of microplants and the direct cultivation of seed potatoes by the project participant for further implementation,” Nadezhda Usova noted.
The meeting also discussed the need for state support for scientific institutions within the framework of various programs. LLC Prigorodny, as the main producer of marketable potatoes in the region, is considering the possibility of participating in a priority project with the provision of its own capacities for storing seed potatoes.
“Food security and import substitution are the most important tasks facing the Government of the Komi Republic today,” concluded Elmira Akhmeeva.
