In the republic, potato yields are growing in the organized sector. In 2023, the average figure was 320 hundredweight per hectare, whereas in 2020, 59 quintals less tubers were harvested per hectare in Belarusian fields.
The products grown by local farmers are sufficient to fully meet the needs of the domestic market. In the structure of plantings, about 65 percent of the area is occupied by varieties of domestic breeding.
According to Nikolai Leshik, head of the Main Department of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, work continues in the country to improve the varietal and reproductive composition of potatoes. The State Register of varieties for industrial cultivation for the current year includes 184 varieties of culture of domestic and foreign breeding.
Nikolay Leshik said that new Belarusian potato varieties are in great demand among the residents of the republic, including Pershatsvet, Palats, Mastak, Julia, Ten. But those that have long been established on the market remain popular, including Belongings, Zhuravinka, Breeze, Manifest.
