In an exclusive interview for POTATOES NEWS, we spoke with Altay Batur, General Manager of the Turkish agricultural company Genta, founded in 1989. Genta is actively working both in the domestic market and internationally, developing its own formulations in the field of fertilizers, biostimulants, and agrochemicals. Mr. Batur shared insights into the family nature of the business, strategic plans for the coming years, export development (including Russia), and participation in Potato Day Turkey 2025.
Genta: From Family Business to International Brand
“The company was founded by my father in 1989. At first, we worked with European seed and fertilizer producers, but then built our own factory first in the year 2000 in İstanbul, then in 2017 in Izmir. Now we not only manufacture but also test our products at our research center in Antalya, where we can control temperature, humidity, and lighting,” said Altay Batur.
The company specializes in the development and production of biostimulants, micronutrients, and specialty fertilizers. Genta is actively expanding its exports, particularly to the Middle East, Asia, and CIS countries.

Russia – A Strategic Partner
“The registration of our products in Russia is almost complete. It’s a long but valuable process that raises overall market quality,” Mr. Batur noted.
Genta sees Russia as more than just a large market — it also aligns culturally and practically:
“We feel a philosophical closeness with the Russian market — there’s a strong emphasis on practical experience, fieldwork, and real results,” he added.

Genta at Potato Day Turkey 2025
“We are happy to participate in Potato Day Turkey 2025. What makes this event special is that it takes place in the field — you can not only talk but also touch the soil, see the plants, dig up potatoes, and evaluate product performance.”
At the event, the company plans to present its flagship products:
- Sprinter – one of the best-selling root development products in Turkey, effective for potatoes, vegetables, and orchards;
- Real Plus – a calcium and potassium-based formula with biostimulants, also being registered in Russia.
Weather Challenges of the Season
According to Mr. Batur, spring 2025 in Turkey has been dry, but some regions (notably Hatay and Antakya) experienced a cold snap in February–March:
“Temperatures dropped to -10°C, which is unusually low for this area. Young potato plants were severely damaged. This will impact local growers and increase prices in other regions.”
5-Year Development Strategy
“Right now, we export to 12–15 countries. In the next five years, we plan to double this number and make Turkey one of our markets — not the only one. We believe in international growth, especially in cooperation with Russia and Eurasian countries,” said Mr. Batur.
Invitation to the Exhibition
“We welcome everyone to the Genta booth at Potato Day Turkey 2025. We’ll be happy to discuss technologies, introduce our products, and simply connect with colleagues from Russia, Turkey, and other countries,” Mr. Batur concluded.
