Early varieties of onions are being harvested in the Kizlyar region

This was reported by the press service of the administration of the Kizlyar region. “Back in April, we introduced our readers to the experimental method of growing early onion varieties in the village of Kardonovka. The head of the Kizlyar region, Akim Mikirov, also visited the farm, was interested in the progress of field work, and since then has been keeping under control the issue of a continuous cycle of growing consumer basket vegetables in the municipality. On August 2, we visited the farm again and got acquainted with the progress of the harvest.”

Ripe large and juicy onion heads on the field lie in a bright white, yellow and lilac canvas. This is the first early onion harvest in the region. Entrepreneur IP Magomedov made a bet on the profitability of open and closed ground vegetables and did not lose. Shamil Magomedov was sure that, due to sanctions, there would be no supplies of imported onions in the same volumes, so he took up the initiative to cultivate onions according to the Dutch technology – seedlings in the open field, in order to enter the market early.

The head of the farm proudly tells how much work has been invested in each bulb. The harvest turned out to be rich, on average up to 600 centners per hectare. Today, all goods are shipped from the field to supply the domestic market. The main part of the production will go to the counters of the republic.

“An environmentally friendly product produced on native land will seriously compete with imported analogues, which in turn will affect the retail price,” the farmer says.

We arrived at the field when the sun was lowering to the horizon, after 6 pm. At this time, the sticky summer heat gives way to the coolness of the evening, and performance increases significantly. We caught about forty people cleaning. For the second week already, the workers have been going out into the fields with the first rays of the sun in order to harvest 11 hectares by the scheduled date.

Usually five people work. Aishat Gairbekova from the village of Godoberi, Botlikh district, works in one of the teams. She comes to the Kizlyar region every year to work. In the season earns up to 50 thousand rubles. The girl admits that harvesting onions is not an easy job, as they work by hand. The group manages to collect and pack up to two hundred bags per shift. Here is the process of sorting onions. In a couple of days, the entire crop will be harvested, and winter varieties of white cabbage will be planted in this field.

Thanks to the planting of vegetables of the “borscht” set due to open and closed ground, an uninterrupted cycle of harvesting vegetables is carried out on the farm of IP Magomedov. Already in autumn, a high harvest of potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, beets, legumes and eggplants is expected here.

This year, in the Kizlyar region, the area under vegetables in the commodity sector has increased to 670 hectares. Such volumes for goods of the “consumer basket” by farmers are calculated for import substitution.
