Bushwick Commission’s Locally Grown Potato Initiative Benefits Children’s Hospital

Promoting Community Health and Support through Fresh Produce Engagement

Bushwick Commission, a fourth-generation supplier of fresh potatoes and vegetables, has successfully concluded its locally grown promotion in Virginia, aimed at supporting the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia.

The initiative, known as the Virginia Grown program, underscores Bushwick’s commitment to community welfare and health. Highlighted on KwikLok packaging, the promotion encouraged consumers to explore the origins of their produce by scanning a QR code, with participants also entering a draw for a cash gift card. This engagement strategy proved highly effective, with over 1,000 shoppers participating during the four-week campaign.

Ken Gray, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Bushwick, emphasized the program’s dual impact: “We are deeply committed to supporting the communities we serve. By promoting locally grown produce, we not only raise awareness about sustainable agriculture but also contribute to vital pediatric care and wellness services at King’s Daughters.”

Dublin Farms, a longstanding family-owned business since 1876, supplied the featured potatoes for the promotion. As the new potato season approaches along the East Coast, consumers can anticipate a diverse selection including russet, red, white, and yellow potatoes, including the renowned Caribou russet from Maine.

The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters serves as a beacon of pediatric care, addressing critical healthcare needs such as childhood obesity and mental health among its young patients. With a workforce exceeding 4,000 and annually serving over 5,000 patients, the hospital integrates food and wellness into its holistic approach to child health in Virginia.
