Enhancing Precision and Efficiency: HarvestEye Partners with G Visser & Sons

HarvestEye, a cutting-edge machine-learning crop insights tool, has forged a strategic alliance with G Visser & Sons, a prominent potato grower based in Prince Edward Island (PEI), to elevate produce quality standards in the competitive North American market.

G Visser & Sons has integrated HarvestEye to meticulously track the size, shape, and variation of potatoes processed on their packing lines, handling an impressive 226.7 tons of produce weekly. This collaboration aims to refine the grading process, ensuring stringent quality control while supporting conveyor belt sorters in their physical tasks.

HarvestEye provides a cost-effective solution for real-time visibility into root crop harvests, encompassing potatoes and onions, accessible via an intuitive internet portal. The technology seamlessly integrates across harvesting machinery for crop lifting, grading equipment, and handheld devices for precise in-field assessments.

“Partnering closely with PEI’s leading potato-growing family underscores our commitment to advancing agricultural technology in fresh produce markets. This collaboration allows us to deepen our insights into how HarvestEye can empower growers, packers, and processors, addressing specific challenges unique to PEI and other North American potato-growing regions, from the island’s distinct red soils to managing variable environmental conditions,” highlighted Harry Tinson, General Manager at HarvestEye.

G Visser & Sons is keen to enhance return on investment by expanding HarvestEye’s application across additional pack plant lines, field harvesting machinery setups, and handheld devices for enhanced crop monitoring and operational efficiency. This expansion is poised to optimize crop progression tracking, yield forecasts, sizing assessments, and harvest scheduling.

“While we value the expertise of our quality sorters, integrating a system like HarvestEye provides invaluable passive real-time monitoring capabilities, mitigating potential human errors and ensuring consistent performance. After exploring various options, we found HarvestEye at Fruit Logistica, impressed by its tailored application to our needs. Now operational on our packing lines, HarvestEye’s daily reporting delivers invaluable insights, enabling us to uphold our commitment to delivering high-quality products while optimizing returns for our growers,” added Adam Jay, Chief Operating Officer at G Visser & Sons.

“PEI plays a pivotal role in North America’s potato industry. By collaborating with established growers such as G Visser & Sons, who possess deep-rooted agricultural knowledge, we continue to evolve our product’s hardware and software components, offering enhanced support to our customers. As HarvestEye expands its footprint in North America, we remain dedicated to engaging with users through strategic partnerships and distributor networks, fostering greater trial opportunities, feedback integration, and system adoption,” concluded Vidyanath (Vee) Gururajan, Managing Director of HarvestEye.
