Brazil Potato Market: Tight Supply, But Prices Barely Budge

#image_title

Week of October 27–31, 2025 — Brazil’s wholesale potato market remained broadly stable despite a seasonal drop in availability as the winter harvest winds down.

  • São Paulo (CEAGESP): special Ágata averaged R$39.88 per 25-kg sack — flat week over week.
  • Rio de Janeiro: R$41.19/sack — up 4.2% on the week.
  • Belo Horizonte: R$39.07/sack — unchanged.

Market participants attribute the limited price reaction to two offsetting dynamics: (1) lower supply due to late-October rains and the natural tapering of the winter crop; and (2) the customary end-of-month lull in demand, which capped gains, especially in São Paulo. In Rio de Janeiro, trading liquidity was also dampened by law-enforcement operations against criminal groups, slowing transactions.

Outlook: The first lots from the rainy-season crop are expected to hit southern wholesale markets in November, which could ease supply pressure and stabilize quotations across hubs.
