Restrain, a leading player in sustainable agricultural technology, has appointed Yotam Guetta as its new Head of Technology. Yotam, who previously held leadership roles at Infarm, brings a wealth of experience in sustainable farming and technological integration to the company. With over a decade of experience, he is poised to steer Restrain’s technology division to new heights, particularly in enhancing potato storage and expanding the company’s solutions to a wider range of crops.
Yotam’s Expertise in Agronomy and AgriTech
Yotam Guetta’s impressive career in agriculture and technology has positioned him as a leader in the field. He holds a Master’s in Soil and Water Science and a degree in Agricultural Science, which, combined with his hands-on experience in crop operations and agronomy, makes him uniquely qualified to lead technological innovations at Restrain.
Before joining Restrain, Yotam led Infarm’s sustainable farming advancements as the Head of Agronomy and Global Crops Operations Manager. His role at Infarm saw him integrate cutting-edge farming technologies that reduced waste, optimized water use, and promoted sustainable practices. His approach was both practical and forward-thinking, aligning well with Restrain’s vision of sustainable agricultural solutions.
Restrain’s Revolutionary Potato Storage Technology
Restrain has been a pioneer in ethylene-based potato storage technology for over two decades. Their approach ensures potatoes remain sprout-free, retain their quality, and are ready for the market even after long-term storage. Restrain’s technology is adaptable to various storage conditions—whether in bulk, boxes, ambient, or refrigerated environments.
With the European ban on CIPC (chlorpropham) in 2020, Restrain’s ethylene technology became the preferred sprout suppression method among major potato suppliers and French fry manufacturers. By maintaining a stable ethylene environment, their system helps reduce weight loss and ensures the desired fry color, making it a cost-effective, natural solution.
Technological Advancements at Restrain
In 2017, Restrain began producing its own catalytic generators, which allowed for greater control and innovation in ethylene application. By integrating microcomputer technology, Restrain has made strides towards internet-connected systems, enabling farmers and storage facilities to monitor and control storage conditions remotely.
By 2023, the company had integrated iCloud-based remote monitoring, giving operators the ability to make real-time adjustments to storage conditions, ensuring optimal results with minimal labor. This combination of ethylene management and digital connectivity has made Restrain a leader in long-term potato storage.
Yotam’s Vision for the Future of Restrain
As Restrain continues to innovate, Yotam’s role will be central to expanding the company’s capabilities. His vision includes improving the application of ethylene technology across a wider range of crops beyond potatoes, exploring new avenues for storage solutions, and refining the remote monitoring technologies Restrain has pioneered.
Yotam shared his enthusiasm for his new role:
“I am excited to join Restrain at such an important time for both the company and the agricultural industry. Restrain’s commitment to sustainable solutions and its groundbreaking ethylene technology offer enormous potential for the future of crop management. I look forward to building on the innovative foundations already in place and driving even greater advancements in the years ahead.”
With Yotam Guetta at the helm of technology at Restrain, the company is poised to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable crop management. As the demand for eco-friendly, efficient storage solutions grows, Restrain’s ethylene technology and digital innovations will be instrumental in shaping the future of agriculture.
