The Vice Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation expressed hope that trade between the two countries would reach $3 billion in the near future.
The authorities of Russia and Armenia are planning to create a joint technopark in the republic. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexei Gordeev stated this on Tuesday at a press conference following the results of negotiations with Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan in Yerevan.
As Gordeev noted, issues of developing trade and economic partnership were discussed at the meeting with Grigoryan. He recalled that currently there are about 200 cooperation agreements concluded between Armenia and Russia in various fields.
“Today we talked about how to use this potential. We see a good growth in trade. There is confidence that in the near future we will approach the annual turnover of $3 billion,” said the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, there is an opportunity to increase investments in the creation of joint ventures – industrial and agricultural. Investments have been accumulated in various companies, their share in the Armenian economy is 40%.
“Our business is seriously present here, but I would like to change the quality of these investments and enter the joint production of certain types of products. To sell goods not only in the markets of Armenia and Russia, but also in third countries,” the Russian parliamentarian explained.
According to him, the conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia was substantive: the parties discussed the issue of creating a joint, efficient technology park in the near future.
A separate topic was the issue of using the potential in education and science, creating the right chain of interaction.
In addition, the parties considered issues of mutual certification of products in the markets of Armenia and Russia, so that they are perceived as goods of domestic production.
On June 28, the Russian delegation headed by Gordeev arrived in Armenia on a two-day official visit. The delegation includes Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Maxim Uvaydov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexei Bezprozvannykh, head of Roskachestvo Maxim Protasov.
To discuss the prospects for cooperation between countries within the framework of the EAEU, Artak Kamalyan, Minister for Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission, is participating in the events of the Russian delegation.
According to the Russian side, in four months – from January to April 2022 – the trade turnover between Armenia and Russia increased by 30% and exceeded $890 million.
