The Ministry of Agriculture of the Trans-Baikal Territory asked the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation to allocate federal funds to compensate for part of the costs of purchasing agricultural equipment and building vegetable stores in the region, which will allow Transbaikal to triple the production of vegetables and potatoes, as well as to become self-sufficient in these products. “According to Rosstat, the Trans-Baikal Territory provides itself with potatoes by 68%, while more than 90% is produced by private farms. In order to increase production volumes, farmers need to compensate for the costs of purchasing machinery and equipment and building vegetable stores with a total capacity of 15 thousand tons. In this case, agricultural organizations of the region are ready to increase the production of vegetables and potatoes by 3-4 times in five years.

As Maxim Uvaydov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, noted earlier, from 2023, the federal project “Development of Vegetable and Potato Growing” will start working in Russia, according to which it is supposed to provide subsidies for agrotechnological work, the production of vegetables, including elite varieties, in an open and protected soils.
